In 2022, the 40th anniversary of the Air Force 1, Virgil Abloh launches the Louis Vuitton x Nike “Air Force 1”, culminating the shoe’s rich history. Albaugh's posthumous release seamlessly ties together the decades-long history of Nike's famous sneakers.

Virgil Abloh collaborated with Nike to design a total of 47 pairs of custom Nike “Air Force 1” shoes for the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2022 fashion show. To differentiate itself from the original Nike Air Force 1, the sneakers are made from materials used in Abloh's Louis Vuitton men's collection and feature his signature quotation mark design that echoes the text graphics Abloh uses to adorn the shoes. Each pair is manufactured by Louis Vuitton in Fiesso d'Artico, marking the first time an AF1 model has been produced outside of a Nike factory.
